Crewing at Scout Mountain Ultras

Crew access is one of the most challenging aspects of the race and our permit process. We understand the community aspect of crewing at ultras and will do our best to accommodate you. Crews must drive slowly and with caution. Mountain roads are dangerous and will be crowded due to the race and other users. Crews disobeying the law or disrespectful to others will be asked to leave and their runner disqualified.

Crew vehicle tags

100M and 50M runners will be given a crew access tag at check-in, one per runner, that must be displayed on the dash of the crew vehicle at all times. A tag is required at every aid station where crew access is permitted. If a runner is crewed by a vehicle without a tag, they are subject to disqualification.

Crewing is not permitted for the 50K or 24M races. Accommodations can be made if necessary; please speak to race management if you need an exception. Most of the course is on remote trails that are difficult or impossible to access by car.

100M crew access — aid stations

100M crew may access runners at the following aid stations only:

Goodenough Creek. Crews must park at the additional parking at the entrance to the campground and walk in, less than half a mile. Note: we recommend skipping this one. It is a 1.5-hour drive and your runner is only 15 miles into the race.

South Fork Road. Vehicle permits are required and are dispensed at check-in. One vehicle and one crew member per runner is allowed, plus one pacer if a pacer is starting here.

West Fork. No parking for crew at the aid station. All crew must park at Crystal Summit Warming Hut Lot and ride the shuttle to the aid station. Do not attempt to drive to West Fork. See the shuttle section below for full details.

Gibson Jack (mile 47.8). There is a large parking lot here. Do not block in other runners, use caution on the dirt road, and yield to runners as they enter and exit the aid station.

City Creek. There are two City Creek trailheads; the aid station is at the Upper City Creek Trailhead. Crew may park in the lot at the end of the street and walk the short distance to the aid station (less than 0.25 mile).

Scout Mountain. Vehicle permits are required and are dispensed at check-in. One vehicle and one crew member per runner is allowed, plus one pacer if a pacer is starting here. Parking is very limited. Please consider skipping this one unless a pacer is joining your runner.

50M crew access — aid stations

50M crew may access runners at the following aid station only:

West Fork. No parking for crew at the aid station. All crew must park at Crystal Summit Warming Hut Lot and ride the shuttle to the aid station. Do not attempt to drive to West Fork. See the shuttle section below for full details.

Shuttles for 100M and 50M crew

A dedicated crew shuttle runs from the Crystal Summit Warming Hut parking lot to West Fork Trailhead from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday with continuous round trips. Park at Crystal Summit and take the shuttle. Do not attempt to drive to West Fork during this window.

After your runner passes through West Fork, your next crew opportunity for 100M runners is Scout Mountain Aid Station. Take the shuttle back to Crystal Summit, retrieve your car, and drive to Scout Mountain. From there, drive to Century High School and board the Day Shuttle to reach the finish area. The Day Shuttle runs continuously until 10:00 PM.

Cell service is highly unlikely at the Mink Creek Group Site (finish area) and at West Fork. Be prepared for that blackout window. Starlink internet will be available at aid stations, with access limited to runsignup.com and scoutmountainultras.com
